If you are new to my world and only know me through my work in jazz, you might be slightly surprised to learn that a very large part of my background is in sideshow and freak shows. I have always felt accepted and celebrated in this community. Historically speaking, outspoken women, people considered odd, folks with physical differences, often from different cultural backgrounds, members of the LBGTQIA community, and those of us who weren't considered "normal" could be very isolated in the world. I was Jewish, fat, and queer, and very outspoken in small town in central PA... So when I met a whole traveling show of fellow weirdoes in the 90's I packed up my half man, half woman vaudeville suit, grabbed my cello, learned how to do some sideshow feats of wonder and off I went! I don't get to let my freak flag fly too often anymore, but when I do, I am apt to run away with the circus, again.... I had the opportunity to guest with my dear friend Jellyboy the Clown and the Squidling Bros. Sideshow at a private event this week and they invited me to be part of the next leg of their tour! This show is not for the faint of heart. This is not for kids. This is not for people who don't like people who swallow swords, eat fire, lay on boards of nails, and all that other weirdo stuff. Trust me. This is absolutely for adults. This is not a family friendly show. We are friendly, and we are family, but you know what I mean! Don't come, and then get all disturbed, and say I didn't warn you. This is your warning!!! Ypsilanti and Detroit, Michigan, here comes Phat Man Dee! With a bunch of very sweet, very strange, and delightfully disturbing clowns! Tuesday at Regal Beagle in Ypsilanti and Wednesday at Tangent Gallery in Detroit! More info at link in bio!
