Join vocalist George V Johnson Jr and his student Phat Man Dee for an evening celebrating the life and legacy of the Godfather of Vocalese, Eddie Jefferson! Born in Pittsburgh on August 3, 1918, he is credited as an innovator of vocalese, a musical style in which lyrics are set to an instrumental composition or solo. Jefferson's best-known song is "Moody's Mood for Love" which was recorded in 1952, though two years later a recording by King Pleasure catapulted the contrafact into wide popularity (King Pleasure even cites Jefferson as a personal influence). Jefferson's recordings of Charlie Parker's "Parker's Mood" and Horace Silver's "Filthy McNasty" were also hits of the day. Don't miss this magical evening featuring two powerful vocalists as they serve up a roaring repetoire of smokin' hot vocalese! Once a student of the great Eddie Jefferson himself, George V Johnson Jr now mentors many students, one of whom is Pittsburgh's own Phat Man Dee!
